On the warm evening of July 22, 2024, the Rotaract Club of IIT came together for a truly special occasion—the Transition Meeting for the new Rotary International year, marking the beginning of a new era. As the clock struck 7 PM, the room buzzed with excitement and anticipation. This wasn’t just about handing over leadership, it was about embarking on a new adventure full of hope and endless possibilities.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of our friendly Guide Club Coordinator, Rtr. IPP. Anagi Gunasekara, whose warm welcome added a festive touch to the event. The atmosphere was electric as Rtr. Venuri Wijerathne, the Sergeant-at-Arms, took the stage. Her voice rang out clearly, “I call this house to order,” and the room fell silent in anticipation. All eyes were on the outgoing President, Rtr. Atheeq Asmi, who stepped forward with a beaming smile. With a decisive bang of the gavel, he declared, “I hereby call the annual general meeting and the transition meeting of the Rotaract Club of IIT to order!” The sound of the gavel echoed through the hall, marking the end of one chapter and the start of another. This powerful moment set the stage for an evening filled with heartfelt speeches, joyful celebrations, and the thrilling promise of new beginnings.

Rtr. Gayasha Lakshmiwewa, the evening’s vibrant host, infused the event with her signature humor and charm. As the Joint Club Service Director, Rtr. Gayasha gracefully guided us through the Rotaract Formalities. The evening commenced with the National Anthem, followed by the Flag Salutation, then the Rotaract Invocation and the Four-Way Test—a proud tradition that reinforced the core values that define Rotaract. The atmosphere was electric, with a strong sense of pride and unity. As the Rotaract anthem played, its melody resonated not just through the hall but in the hearts of all present, creating a shared moment of joy and inspiration.

As the evening unfolded, attention turned to Rtr. Aakif Ahmed, the outgoing Secretary of the Rotaract Club of IIT. With a mix of pride and nostalgia, Rtr. Aakif took the spotlight to present the annual report, highlighting a year filled with impactful projects and significant achievements. His presentation was more than just a summary of events; it was a heartfelt recount of the club’s journey through its seven avenues. He spoke with sincere appreciation, recognizing the dedication and support of every club member. His report vividly illustrated the year’s successes, from community service initiatives to exciting club service initiatives to innovative projects that made a lasting impact. His words conveyed a deep sense of fulfilment and pride in what the club had accomplished together. As he wrapped up, it was clear that his leadership had been a cornerstone of a remarkable year, setting a high standard for the future and leaving a legacy of commitment and excellence.

Nextt, the outgoing president, Rtr. Atheeq, took the spotlight to reflect on a year full of both challenges and triumphs. His speech was a sincere and heartfelt reflection on the journey he had shared with his team and club members; it was a deeply personal tribute to their shared experiences. As he spoke, the room was captivated by his sincerity and emotion, with everyone hanging on his every word. Rtr. Atheeq reminisced about the highs and lows of the past year, celebrating the growth and accomplishments they had achieved together. His gratitude was palpable, and he took a moment to honour the unwavering support of his team and the entire club. With a poignant sense of fulfilment, Rtr. Atheeq collared Rtr. Amrah Zaharan, the incoming president, and handed over the charter certificate, gavel, and gong. This simple yet powerful act symbolised the seamless transition of leadership. He spoke warmly about Rtr. Amrah, highlighting her unique qualities and his deep confidence in her abilities. As Rtr. Atheeq introduced the incoming president, he highlighted the importance of her role as the second female president of RACIIT, following in the footsteps of the club's charter president. He clearly conveyed confidence in Rtr. Amrah and the aspirations for RACIIT's future, expressing optimism and enthusiasm for the year ahead.

In her inaugural address as President, Rtr. Amrah Zaharan spoke with genuine passion and optimism. Although she had prepared a speech on paper, she chose to speak from the heart, sharing the true meaning of this moment for herself and everyone present. She expressed profound gratitude for the outgoing team, especially the outgoing secretary, Rtr. Aakif and outgoing president Rtr. IPP. Atheeq, acknowledging their dedication and hard work. Rtr. Amrah outlined her vision for the coming year, focusing on unity and innovation. She promised a year filled with exciting projects and meaningful service, inspiring everyone with her heartfelt words. She introduced the new Secretary, Rtr. Muaadh, along with her executive committee and board of directors, all eager to embrace new challenges. As she concluded her address, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation. The audience felt inspired and eager for the bright future ahead, ready to embark on this new journey together.

In a heartwarming close to the evening, the newly appointed Secretary, Rtr. Muaadh Himaz, took the spotlight to deliver the vote of thanks. With deep gratitude, he acknowledged everyone who contributed to making the Transition Meeting such a memorable event. His words resonated with appreciation for the collective effort and support.

As the formalities came to an end, the mood lightened, and members and guests mingled during the refreshment session. It was a time to relax, share stories, and celebrate the promise of the year ahead. The Transition Meeting was a wonderful mix of tradition, celebration, and anticipation. As the Rotaract Club of IIT embarks on this new journey, the members are united by a renewed commitment to making a positive impact.
