The Hotdog Showdown originated in the common room of IIT as a simple hotdog eating competition, but over the years, it has evolved into much more. Today, the event is one of Sri Lanka’s largest hotdog eating competitions, attracting over 3500 people, and has maintained its goal of raising funds for the community service initiative, E-Mithudama.
E-Mithudama is a signature initiative of IIT, aimed at building and rebuilding computer labs for schools in rural areas of Sri Lanka. The initiative provides the necessary equipment and conducts sessions to improve computer literacy and practical skills for the students.
The Hotdog Showdown, held in Colombo, not only showcased the competitive spirit of the participants but also provided a platform for small businesses and local vendors to promote their products. With over 30 food trucks and stalls, the event offered a diverse range of food, drinks, henna booths, and photo booths, providing a festive atmosphere for all food lovers.
In addition to the hotdog competition, the event also featured exciting carnival games, an exhilarating motor show, and a massive and lively musical show. With 17 performances by trendsetting artists, the Hotdog Showdown was an entrancing experience for the audience.
The success of the Hotdog Showdown can be attributed to its precise and unparalleled public relations strategies. In partnership with Emerging Media, the event was advertised on three LED billboards around the Colombo area, reaching a wider audience and further solidifying its status as one of the most outstanding public relations initiatives.
In conclusion, the Hotdog Showdown is a legacy of giving back to the community and providing a fun and exciting experience for all. Through its commitment to raising funds for E-Mithudama and providing a platform for small businesses and local vendors, the event continues to make a positive impact on the community.
