“Sports inculcate something in you that no institution, family or friendship can. A quality that eventually emanates from you, something called Sportsmanship.”― Sandeep Sahajpal
Sports and recreation play a crucial role in our lives, providing a much-needed break from the daily grind and promoting physical and mental wellness. In light of this, the Rotaract District 3220 has placed greater importance on the Sports and Recreational Avenue, and the Rotaract Club of IIT has decided to celebrate this by bringing together various clubs through its newest initiative, “Ground Rules”.
Ground Rules is a unique initiative that seeks to promote sports and recreation among different clubs. The initiative has a two-fold objective, one of which is to provide a platform for individuals to improve their physical and mental well-being. Regular participation in sports and recreation activities can help to reduce stress, improve physical fitness, and boost mental health, which is especially important in today’s fast-paced world, where many individuals are dealing with high levels of stress and anxiety. Ground Rules provides a much-needed break from the daily grind and promotes overall well-being.
The second objective of Ground Rules is to bring together individuals from different clubs in a spirit of friendly competition and fellowship. The initiative is all about fostering sportsmanship, friendship, and healthy competition among the participating clubs. Football and cricket are two of the most common sports played among the Rotaractors in Sri Lanka, and Ground Rules provides the perfect opportunity for these clubs to battle it out in friendly futsal and cricket tournaments. The project not only contributes to building the physical aspect of the participants but also has a psychological impact, promoting teamwork and collaboration.
Throughout the year, the Rotaract Club of IIT played a number of friendly matches with several other clubs, including the Rotaract Club of Central Campus, ICBT, Achievers Lanka Business School, Pan Colombo, Colombo Mid City, and NIBM. Each game was a memorable experience filled with fellowship and friendly competition, bringing the participants closer together as a team.
One of the key benefits of Ground Rules is that it promotes sportsmanship and healthy competition. The initiative encourages participants to play fair and respect the rules, helping to develop a strong sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Additionally, the friendly competition promotes a healthy and positive atmosphere, helping to build self-esteem and confidence. The positive impact of this project cannot be overstated.
In conclusion, the Rotaract Club of IIT is proud to present Ground Rules, a fantastic initiative that celebrates the true spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, and healthy competition. The project offers a range of benefits, from promoting physical and mental wellness to fostering collaboration and teamwork among participants. So, whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, come and join us for Ground Rules – it’s a great opportunity to have fun, make new connections, and promote the true spirit of sportsmanship and fellowship.
